Information about Fexofenadine (Generic Allegra) :
Fexofenadine is in the class of antihistamines. It works by reducing the natural chemical histamine in the body. Fexofenadine may also be used to treat skin itching and hives caused by a condition called chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children and other medical conditions in adults and children.
The most important information about fexofenadine:
Take Fexofenadine according to the prescription of your doctor. Do not change the dosage without medical consultation.
Consult with your doctor in case you have any medical conditions listed below: if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have kidney disease.
Avoid taking fruit juices (such as apple, orange, or grapefruit) and certain antacids as they may prevent the absorbtion of Fexofenadine in your body.
Avoid taking antacid that contains aluminum or magnesium such as Rolaids, Maalox, Mylanta, Milk of Magnesia, Pepcid Complete, and others within 15 minutes before or after administering Fexofenadine.
This may not be a complete list of all interactions with other drugs. To prevent any complications you should check with your doctor before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Fexofenadine?
Consult with your doctor before taking Fexofenadine if you experience kidney or liver disease, or if you are allergic to antihistamine. In this case you may need special dosage or monitoring. It may also happen that you are not able to take Fexofenadine.
Fexofenadine is in the FDA pregnancy category C. There is no reliable data whether Fexofenadine is deleterious to an unborn baby. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or if you are breast-feeding a baby, as Fexofenadine passes into breast milk. Your doctor may prescribe Fexofenadine for the treatment of seasonal allergy symptoms in children of 6 years and older. Use Fexofenadine oral suspension (liquid) for children aged from 2 to 11. You may use FEXOFENADINE oral suspension to treat chronic idiopathic urticaria in children older than 2 months old.
How taken:
Take Fexofenadine according to the prescription of your doctor. Do not change the dosage without medical consultation.
Take Fexofenadine with a full glass of water only. Shake the liquid before administering and measure the dose with a marked measuring spoon or medicine cup.
Consult with your doctor if there is no improvement of your symptoms of if they worsen after you have start taking Fexofenadine.
Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture, avoid high temperatures (above 30 degrees Celsius).
Missed dose:
You should take the missed dose as soon as you remember and then follow your usual schedule. Nevertheless, if it is near to the time for your next dose, do not take an extra tablet to catch up for the dose you forgot. Wait and take your next tablet at the regular time. Do not take a double dose.
Overdose:
The Fexofenadine overdose needs emergency. The typical signs of overdosage are dry mouth, dizziness, or drowsiness.
Avoid fruit juices, certain antacids, and any other antihistamines while taking Fexofenadine.
Fexofenadine side effects:
Stop administering Fexofenadine and seek emergency if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives). Continue taking Fexofenadine, but consult with your doctor if you have nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomach; menstrual cramps; drowsiness, dizziness, tired feeling; headache; or back pain. Other side effects may also happen. In any case consult with your doctor.
Interactions with other drugs
Consult with your doctor before taking Fexofenadine if you are already taking ketoconazole (Nizoral); or erythromycin (E-Mycin, E.E.S., Ery-Tab, Erythrocin). It may happen that you are not able to take fexofenadine.
There is no data whether Fexofenadine interacts with other medications. Do not take any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal products, during treatment with Fexofenadine without medical consultation.
