Cetirizine is an antihistamine used to treat and prevent symptoms of hay fever and other upper respiratory allergies, such as stuffy nose, runny nose, sneezing, itching of the nose and throat, and itchy, watery eyes. It blocks the action of histamine and reduces the symptoms of an allergic reaction. It may also be administered for the prevention and treatment of chronic hives.

It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your physician.

You should not use Cetirizine in case you have any condition mentioned below: you are allergic to any ingredient in Cetirizine; you have an allergy to Hydroxyzine.

Before using Cetirizine:
Before using Cetirizine you should tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions listed below: you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding a baby; you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances; you have kidney or liver problems, or are receiving blood dialysis.

Be aware that Cetirizine may interact with some medicines. However, no specific interactions with Cetirizine are known at this time.

How to use Cetirizine:
Use this medicine as directed by your physician. Cetirizine should be taken orally with or without food.

In case you miss a dose of Cetirizine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next intake, skip the missed dose and take it according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take double doses to catch up.

Important safety information:
Be careful when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities as Cetirizine usage may lead to drowsiness. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Try to avoid such activities.

Try to avoid the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths while taking Cetirizine as you may become sunburned more easily. You should use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing in case you are not able to avoid such exposure.

The ELDERLY may be more sensitive to the effects of Cetirizine, especially drowsiness. Use Cetirizine with caution in this group.

Seek emergency immediately in case you have any of these severe side effects: severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); dark urine; increased heart rate; persistent fatigue; yellowing of eyes or skin.
