Metronidazole is an antibiotic that fights bacteria in your body.
However, your doctor may prescribe Metronidazole to treat other medical conditions.

The most important information:
You should not stop taking Metronidazole even if you feel better without talking to your doctor. Avoid taking alcohol, as it may cause flushing, fast heartbeats, nausea, and vomiting while you are taking metronidazole.

Warnings:
It is obligatory to talk to a doctor if you have liver disease, stomach or intestinal disease, or infectious mononucleosis, epilepsy or another seizure disorder. In this case you may need special dosage or monitoring. It may also happen that you are not able to take Metronidazole.

Metronidazole is in the FDA pregnancy category B. It is not expected to be detrimental to an unborn baby and is thought to be safe for using during pregnancy. You should consult with your doctor before taking Metronidazole if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Metronidazole passes into breast milk. You should continue taking Metronidazole and consult with your doctor if you experience: darkening of your urine; nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite; an unpleasant metallic taste in your mouth; constipation or mild diarrhea; headache; or swollen or sore tongue. Interactions with other drugs:
Metronidazole interacts with the following drugs: alcohol or alcohol-containing beverages or medicines; amprenavir; barbiturate medicines for inducing sleep or treating seizures (convulsions); carbamazepine; cimetidine; disulfiram; fluorouracil; lithium; methadone; phenytoin; ramelteon; sirolimus; tacrolimus; warfarin.
