Information about Rosiglitazone (Generic Avandia) :
Rosiglitazone a thiazolidinedione that is used for controlling blood sugar levels, along with diet and exercise, in patients with type 2 diabetes. It may also be used with other antidiabetes drugs. Rosiglitazone decreases blood glucose (sugar) by making the cells of the body more sensitive to the action of insulin. Rosiglitazone is not used for type 1 diabetes.
You should not use Rosiglitazone in case you have conditions mentioned below: you are allergic to any ingredient in Rosiglitazone. In this case it is obligatory to consult with your doctor or health care provider before taking this medicine.
Before using Rosiglitazone you should tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions listed below: you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding a baby; you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances; you have diabetic ketoacidosis, type 1 diabetes, swelling problems (edema), or liver disease; you have experienced liver problems, including yellowing of the skin, with troglitazone; you have a history of heart disease (eg, chronic congestive heart failure).
Be aware that Rosiglitazone may interact with some medicines. Consult with your health care provider in case you are taking any other drugs, especially any of the next: Rifampin because the Rosiglitazone’s effectiveness may be lowered; Gemfibrozil because actions and the side effects of Rosiglitazone may be increased.

How to use Rosiglitazone:
You should use Rosiglitazone as recommended by your doctor with or without food. Take with food if stomach upset occurs.
Take Rosiglitazone regularly at the same time every day.
It may take from 2 to 3 months to achieve full effects.
In case you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next intake, skip the missed dose and take it according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take double doses at once.

You should carry an ID card at all times that says you have diabetes.

In case you are using 2 antidiabetic medicines each day and you become irritable, lightheaded, or very tired, consult with your doctor immediately.

Rosiglitazone usage may lead to ovulation in women who have not reached menopause but do not ovulate. You should use effective birth control method while taking Rosiglitazone.
Lab tests, including liver function and blood, may be performed while you are using Rosiglitazone. Follow all doctor and lab appointments strictly.
Be aware that Rosiglitazone should be used with extreme caution in children as safety and effectiveness have not been proved.
PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: In case you become pregnant, consult with your doctor and discuss the benefits and risks of Rosiglitazone usage while pregnancy. Do not breast-feed a baby while using Rosiglitazone.
Possible side effects of Rosiglitazone:

Seek emergency in case you have any of these severe side effects: severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); abdominal pain; bloating or swelling of the ankles, feet, or hands; chest pain; confusion; dark urine; fast heartbeat; hunger; loss of appetite; nausea; numbness; pain; rapid weight gain; shortness of breath; stomach problems; sweating; tiredness; unusual thirst or amount of urine; vision changes; vomiting; yellowing of the skin.
