Information about Nimodipine (Generic Nimotop) :


Nimodipine is a calcium channel blocking agent that is used to reduce problems due to lack of oxygen caused by bleeding from a blood vessel in the brain. The exact mechanism of Nimodipine action is unknown.
It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

You should not use Nimodipine in case you are allergic to any ingredient in Nimodipine. In such case it is obligatory to consult with your doctor or health care provider before taking this drug.

Before using Nimodipine:
Before using Nimodipine you should tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions listed below: you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding a baby; you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances; you have liver problems, heart problems (eg, slow heartbeat), shock due to serious heart problems, low blood pressure, fluid in your lungs, or if you have a history of heart attack.

Be aware that Nimodipine may interact with some medicines. Consult with your health care provider in case you are taking any other drugs, especially any of the following: calcium channel blockers (eg, amlodipine) or other blood pressure medicines because actions and side effects may be increased by Nimodipine usage.

How to use Nimodipine:
Take Nimodipine as recommended by your doctor. It should be taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after eating). Try to avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while using Nimodipine.

In case you miss a dose of Nimodipine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next intake, skip the missed dose and take it according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take double doses to catch up.

Important safety information:
Nimodipine usage may lead to dizziness or lightheadedness. These effects may be worsened by taking alcohol or certain medicines. Prevent driving or performing any other possibly dangerous actions.

In case you become pregnant, consult with your doctor and discuss the benefits and risks of taking Nimodipine while pregnancy. It is not clear whether Nimodipine passes into breast milk. Avoid breast-feeding a baby while you are taking Nimodipine.

Possible side effects of Nimodipine:
You should consult with your doctor in case you have any of side effects especially bothersome listed below: diarrhea; flushing; headache; nausea.

Seek emergency immediately in case you have any of these severe side effects: severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); black or bloody stools; depression; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; severe dizziness; shortness of breath; severe or persistent constipation; swelling of the feet or hands; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual tiredness or weakness; yellowing of the eyes or skin.
