Information about Dipyridamole (Generic Persantine) :


Dipyridamole is a coronary vasodilator that is used for evaluating coronary artery disease in patients who are not able to exercise adequately before thallium imaging (cardiac blood flow scan). It increases blood flow to the heart, which mimics an exercise test. It is usually followed by the thallium test.

You should not use Dipyridamole in case you are allergic to any ingredient in Dipyridamole.
In such case it is obligatory to consult with your doctor or health care provider before taking this drug.

Before using Dipyridamole:
Before using Dipyridamole you should tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions listed below: you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding a baby; you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances; you have asthma; chest pain (angina); heart disease; heart block; or abnormal, rapid, slow, or irregular heartbeat; you have severe muscle weakness.

Be aware that Dipyridamole may interact with some medicines. Consult with your health care provider in case you are taking any other drugs, especially any of the following: theophyllines (eg, aminophylline) because the effectiveness of Dipyridamole may be decreased; adenosine because the risk of its side effects, including low blood pressure and irregular heartbeat, may be increased by Dipyridamole; anticholinesterases (eg, pyridostigmine) because their effectiveness may be decreased by Dipyridamole.

It may not be a complete list of all interactions with other drugs. To prevent any complications you should check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Dipyridamole:
Take Dipyridamole as recommended by your doctor. It is used as an injection at doctor's office, hospital, or clinic.

In case you miss a dose of Dipyridamole, consult with your doctor immediately.

Important safety information:
Dipyridamole usage may lead to dizziness. These effects may be worsened by taking alcohol or certain medicines. Prevent driving or performing any other possibly dangerous actions.

Do not take food or drink that contains caffeine (eg, coffee, tea, cocoa, cola, chocolate) before taking of Dipyridamole.

Seek emergency immediately in case you have any of these severe side effects: severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); chest pain; confusion; fast, irregular, or slow heartbeat; one-sided weakness; seizures; slurred speech.
