Proventil Solution is a sympathomimetic (beta agonist) bronchodilator that is used to treat breathing problems in patients with asthma or certain other airway diseases. It relaxes the smooth muscle in the airway, which allows air to flow more easily.
It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

You should not use Proventil Solution in case you have any condition mentioned below: you are allergic to any ingredient in Proventil Solution; you are using another short-acting sympathomimetic bronchodilator (eg, metaproterenol) or epinephrine.

In such cases it is obligatory to consult with your doctor or health care provider before taking this drug.

Before using Proventil Solution:
Before using Proventil Solution you should tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions listed below: you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding a baby; you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances; you have a history of heart problems, (eg, fast or irregular heartbeat, heart failure), blood vessel problems, high blood pressure, or low blood potassium levels; you have a history of seizures, diabetes, an overactive thyroid, kidney problems, or an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma); you have ever had an unusual reaction to another sympathomimetic medicine (eg, pseudoephedrine); you are taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) (eg, phenelzine), or tricyclic antidepressant (eg, amitriptyline), or if you have taken either of these medicines within the last 14 days.

Be aware that Proventil Solution may interact with some medicines. Consult with your health care provider in case you are taking any other drugs, especially any of the following: diuretics (eg, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide) because the risk of low blood potassium levels may be increased; catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitors (eg, entacapone), epinephrine, MAOIs (eg, phenelzine), short-acting sympathomimetic bronchodilators (eg, metaproterenol), stimulants (eg, amphetamine), sympathomimetics (eg, pseudoephedrine), or tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline) because they may increase the risk of Proventil Solution's side effects; beta-blockers (eg, propranolol) because they may decrease Proventil Solution's effectiveness; digoxin because its effectiveness may be decreased.

It may not be a complete list of all interactions with other drugs. To prevent any complications you should check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Proventil Solution:
Use Proventil Solution as recommended by your physician. Be aware that Proventil Solution is for inhalation only. Avoid getting it in the eyes. In case it happens, rinse your eyes right away using cool tap water. You should remove a vial from the foil pouch and then place the remaining vials back into the pouch for storage. It is not recommended to use Proventil Solution in case it contains particles, is cloudy or discolored, or if the vial is cracked or damaged.

The right use of Proventil Solution:
1. Twist open the top of the vial and pour the entire contents into the nebulizer reservoir. 2. Connect the nebulizer reservoir to the mouthpiece or face mask. Connect the nebulizer to the compressor. (It is recommended to sit in a comfortable, upright position). 3. Place the mouthpiece in your mouth (or put on the face mask) and turn on the nebulizer. 4. Breathe as calmly, deeply, and evenly as possible until no more mist is formed in the nebulizer chamber (from 5 to 15 minutes). 5. Clean the nebulizer according to the instructions. Unproper cleaning may lead to bacteria growth and an infection. It is important to use the entire contents right after to avoid bacteria entering.

Do not give up using Proventil Solution without medical consultation.

You should not mix this medication with other medicines in the nebulizer unless otherwise recommended by your physician.

In case you miss a dose of Proventil Solution, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next intake, skip the missed dose and take it according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take double doses to catch up.

Important safety information:
Proventil Solution usage may lead to dizziness. This effect may be worsened by taking alcohol or certain medicines. Prevent driving or performing any other possibly dangerous actions.

If Proventil Solution does not help you or your symptoms become worse, or you need to inhale it more often, consult with your doctor immediately. It may be a sign of seriously worsening asthma.

Do NOT use Proventil Solution more than recommended or more often than prescribed without medical consultation. The effective work of Proventil Solution is up to 6 hours. The overuse of Proventil Solution may increase the risk of severe heart problems and sometimes even death.

You may experience dry mouth or an unpleasant taste in your mouth while taking Proventil Solution. It is recommended to rinse your mouth using water after each dose. That helps relieve these effects.

Notice your doctor or dentist that you use Proventil Solution before you undergo any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery.

Consult with your doctor before using any other inhaled medicines while you are using Proventil Solution.

Diabetes patients should be aware that Proventil Solution may influence blood sugar. Monitor blood sugar levels closely. Ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine.

In case your medicine supply begins to run low, call your doctor or pharmacy as soon as possible for a refill.

The ELDERLY are likely to be more sensitive to its effects. Use Proventil Solution with caution in this group.

Use Proventil Solution with extreme caution in CHILDREN younger than 2 years old as safety and effectiveness in this group have not been proved. CHILDREN are more likely to be sensitive to Proventil effects.

PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING:
In case you become pregnant, consult with your doctor and discuss the benefits and risks of taking Proventil Solution while pregnancy. It is not clear whether Proventil Solution passes into breast milk. In case you are or will be breast-feeding a baby, check with your doctor and discuss any possible risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Proventil Solution:
You should consult with your doctor in case you have any of side effects especially bothersome listed below: cough; dizziness; headache; nausea; nervousness; sinus inflammation; sore or dry throat; tremor; trouble sleeping; unusual taste in mouth; vomiting.

Seek emergency immediately in case you have any of these severe side effects: severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); chest pain; ear pain; fast or irregular heartbeat; new or worsened trouble breathing; pounding in the chest; severe headache or dizziness; unusual hoarseness; wheezing.
