Information about Carisoprodol (Generic Soma) :


Carisoprodol is a muscle relaxant that is used along with rest and physical therapy, to treat injuries and other painful muscular conditions. It blocks nerve impulses (pain sensations) sent to your brain.

It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

You should not take Carisoprodol in case you have acute intermittent porphyria.

Before using Carisoprodol you should tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease. In such cases you may require a special dose adjustment or monitoring during course of treatment.

Be aware that Carisoprodol may interact with some medicines. Consult with your health care provider in case you are taking any other drugs, especially any of the following: alcohol; barbiturate medicines for inducing sleep or treating seizures (convulsions), like Phenobarbital; cimetidine; isoniazid (INH); medicines for colds, hay fever or other allergies; medicines for HIV or AIDS; medicines for mental depression, anxiety, or emotional disturbances; medicines for pain; medicines for seizures (convulsions) or epilepsy; medicines for sleep; modafinil; omeprazole; muscle relaxants; rifampin, rifabutin, or rifapentine; voriconazole.

It is not clear if Carisoprodol is deleterious to an unborn baby. You should consult with your doctor before taking Carisoprodol if you suppose pregnancy. It is also not clear whether Carisoprodol passes into breast milk. Consult with your doctor in case you are breast-feeding a baby.

Do not use Carisoprodol in children younger than 12 years of age.

How to use Carisoprodol:
You should take Carisoprodol as recommended by your doctor. The maximum daily dose is 1,400 mg (4 tablets). Each dose should be taken with a full glass of water.

Keep Carisoprodol at indoor temperature away from moisture and heat.

In case you miss a dose of Carisoprodol, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next intake, skip the missed dose and take it according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take double doses to catch up. Keep the 4 hours interval between doses.

Seek emergency medical attention in case an overdosage is suspected. Symptoms of the overdose are low blood pressure (weakness, fainting, confusion), decreased breathing, and unconsciousness.

Important safety information:
Carisoprodol usage may lead to drowsiness and dizziness. These effects may be worsened by taking alcohol or certain medicines. Prevent driving or performing any other possibly unsafe actions while taking Carisoprodol.

Possible side effects of Carisoprodol:
You should consult with your doctor if you experience any of side effects especially bothersome listed below: drowsiness or dizziness; headache; depression; blurred vision; insomnia; or hiccups.

Seek emergency in case you have any of these severe side effects: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives); paralysis (loss of feeling) or extreme weakness; vision loss; or agitation or tremor.
