Medroxyprogesterone is a progestin hormone that is used to treat certain menstrual problems or uterine problems (eg, abnormal bleeding, endometrial hyperplasia). This medicine influences the lining of the uterus.
It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

You should not use Medroxyprogesterone in case you have any condition mentioned below: you are allergic to any ingredient in Medroxyprogesterone; you have vaginal bleeding of unknown cause, or if you have a history of blood clots, bleeding in the brain (eg, stroke), liver problems, or breast or genital cancer; you are pregnant or may be pregnant.

Before using Medroxyprogesterone:
Before using Medroxyprogesterone you should tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions listed below: you are planning to become pregnant or are breast-feeding a baby; you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances; you have diabetes, seizures (eg, epilepsy), migraines, asthma, heart problems, kidney problems, or a history of depression.

Be aware that Medroxyprogesterone may interact with some medicines. Consult with your health care provider in case you are taking any other drugs, especially any of the following: rifampin because effectiveness of Medroxyprogesterone may be decreased.

How to use Medroxyprogesterone:
Take Medroxyprogesterone as recommended by your physician. Medroxyprogesterone should be taken orally with or without food at the same time every day, with doses not more than 24 hours apart.

In case you miss a dose of Medroxyprogesterone, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next intake, skip the missed dose and take it according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take double doses to catch up.

Important safety information:
Be careful when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities as Medroxyprogesterone usage may lead to drowsiness or dizziness. These conditions may be worsened by alcohol or any other drugs. Try to avoid any dangerous activities or any other possibly unsafe tasks while taking Medroxyprogesterone.

Dark skin patches on your face may appear while taking Medroxyprogesterone. Try to avoid the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths. It is recommended to use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing in case you are not able to prevent such exposure.

Diabetes patients should monitor their blood sugar levels closely, as Medroxyprogesterone may influence your blood sugar. Consult with your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes drug.

Do not use Medroxyprogesterone in CHILDREN as safety and effectiveness in children have not been proved.

PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING:
You should not use Medroxyprogesterone in case you are pregnant. If you think you could become pregnant, consult with your doctor immediately. It is known that Medroxyprogesterone passes into breast milk. In case you are or will be breast-feeding a baby consult with your doctor and discuss any possible risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Medroxyprogesterone:
You should consult with your doctor in case you have any of side effects especially bothersome listed below: acne; changes in menstrual flow, including breakthrough bleeding, spotting, or missed periods; dizziness; drowsiness; fever; headache; hot flashes; nausea; nervousness; pain; rash; sleeplessness; stomach pain; weakness; weight gain or loss.

Seek emergency immediately in case you have any of these severe side effects: severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); chest pain; depression; lumps in the breast or under the armpits; partial or complete loss of vision or changes in vision; shortness of breath; slurred speech; sudden loss of coordination; sudden or severe headache; swelling of fingers or ankles; tenderness, pain, or swelling of the calf; weakness, numbness, or pain in the arms or legs; yellowing of the skin or eyes.
